The Letter in the Pond

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology

Recently, a friend of ours, Simon, moved to Over, just North of Cambridge, UK. He was moving to a lovely property, with a nice garden and a pond. Simon wasn't so keen on the pond though. It's not very child friendly, and with two young ones running around the garden, he thought it would be safer to ...

Matthew Garrett: Personality modification through perl

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology
One of the downsides of writing my thesis last year was that focusing on a technical subject for approximately 16 hours a day left me almost entirely unable to relate to people. The irony in this is that losing the ability to socially relate tends to result in you assuming that you're fine and everyone else is just behaving bizarrely, which makes rectifying the situation rather difficult.

Weakening Signals

Bill Watson might play a four-hour piece by Bach, and then slap it on again, just because he felt like it. Or he might interrupt a Mahler symphony mid-spin, deciding instead to recite poetry or blend news bulletins with reports from his "Roman Empire correspondent," Edward Gibbon.

Google推出Linux版Google Gadgets

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology
[INSTALL] autoconf [INSTALL] automake [INSTALL] libtool [INSTALL] pkg-config [INSTALL] libcurl4-gnutls-dev [INSTALL] libxml2-dev [INSTALL] libgtk2.

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology
Filed under: Handsets, Apple, Hutchison 3Looks like Hutchison (aka 3) snagged the iPhone for distribution in Hong Kong and Macau, which will be coming "later this year." Like the rest, this was another one liner un-announcement with no real info, but you probably wouldn't want to anger Steve before WWDC.

College Student Makes Multi-touch Table Out Of Cardboard Box [Multi-touch]

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology
Microsoft's Surface multi-touch table sure is cool, but who has $10,000 to spend on a gadget like that? I personally have maybe fifty bucks to my name right now, so I guess I'll have to fulfill my...

It’s Not Rocket Science, But It’s Our Work

authorsizzletime31 May 2008categorytechnology

It's exciting stuff and we hang on every bit of news. Twitter's system architecture shortcomings are nowhere near as interesting and we're certainly not as exciting as rocket science or exploring Mars to most people. Earlier this evening, TechCrunch posted some specific technology questions for us on ...

BBC News - Jun. 1 (News Report) - Nasa's Discovery shuttle has blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a 14-day mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The WB private-beta-launched its anticipated new portal of old shows tonight, and I just had a chance to take a look around. The site looks nice enough and promises some interesting features, but there’s a lot left unfinished — like the original online shows we’d been promised.
